The Adam Davis Guide to the Ford season

One of my favorite things about being Managing Director of the Ford is meeting and getting to know a whole range of artists and producers who live and work in L.A. I have been talking to the Ford artmakers for 2010 since last fall when they applied to be part of the season. Now that we’ve announced the schedule I’m delighted to help introduce them to you. Through our enhanced Web site and stepped up social media activity, you will have the opportunity to hear their stories and see how they prepare for their Ford performances.

I mentioned that the artists apply to the Ford. Their proposals have made for surprising and eclectic seasons.  Take, for example, our 17-event 2010 dance series, which features, among others:

  • Mantra Siam Performing Arts introducing a combination of Thai martial arts and dance with 30 practitioners chosen by competition in Thailand

  • Catch Me Bird, a duo combining smart dialogue and explosive movement — on the ground and in the air — in their continuing reality series about their relationship.

  • Flamenco dancer Maria Bermudez, who not only dances with her company but sings, expressing her love of African-American blues, in the Chicano Gypsy Project portion of her show

I could go on, but better you should download our Season At A Glance and browse the music, dance, film and family events that will be held this summer from May through October or better yet, click on one the series links to the left to take you directly to our enhanced event pages.

Be sure to consider our most AfFORDable choices: the Saturday morning Big!World!Fun! Family Series, free for children and only $5 for adults, and the Monday night interactive J.A.M. Sessions, where you can get in touch with your inner artist for FREE!

Artists aren’t the only ones with stories. We’d love to hear from you through twitter and facebook and encourage you to engage and become a part of the Ford’s vibrant e-community.

Seize the moment and escape with us this summer at L.A.’s oasis!

See you at the Ford,
Adam Davis, Managing Director
